A Butler County Prison inmate is charged with selling heroin to a police informant in a 2018 drug deal in Butler.

Damian A. Smith, 34, was arraigned Monday on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Smith has been in the county prison since Dec. 4 when he was arrested on unrelated assault and drug charges in Butler Township, authorities said.

On the latest charges filed by the Butler County Drug Task Force, he is accused of selling 10 stamp bags of heroin to an informant during a controlled drug buy Oct. 23 in the area of South Chestnut Street.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 1 at the office of District Judge William Fullerton in Butler. He remains behind bars on $21,000 bail.

Smith is already awaiting trial on charges in Butler County in two other unrelated cases.

He is charged in the Butler Township case with simple assault and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors, as well as harassment and disorderly, both summaries.

In the other case, he is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor and public drunkenness, a summary offense, in Butler.
