Arthur W. Heckman, 89, of Mars, formerly of Dormont, died Friday afternoon at UPMC Passavant Hospital in Cranberry Township.

Born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 14, 1920, he was the son of the late Frank and Edna Heckman.

Mr. Heckman had been a steelworker at J&L Steel in Hazelwood and was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Christian Community Church in Mars.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Schad Heckman, and a son, the Rev. James Heckman and his wife, Mary, of Mars.

He was the grandfather of Jennifer, Zachary, Katie and Sarah and the great grandfather of Timothy James.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Heckman; two brothers, Frank and Harold, and a sister, Lillian.
