Man charged with trespassing at Butler Memorial Park Cemetery
A Butler man is accused of breaking a glass door at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery, police said.
John Charles Kelly, 44, was charged Saturday, Sept. 27, with felony criminal trespass and misdemeanor criminal mischief, following the Friday incident.
Butler Township police said they were dispatched to Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery for reports of a suspicious man. Police said they found Kelly walking in the cemetery, where he was showing signs of intoxication.
After a brief interaction, police handcuffed Kelly and noticed broken glass all over his black hoodie and in the side pocket of his backpack, according to the affidavit.
Police then contacted the caller who reportedly witnessed Kelly at the cemetery. The witness told police he saw Kelly pulling on the door of the first building when entering the cemetery, and he later saw Kelly crawling out of a broken glass door.
Police then found the side glass door with the glass broken, which was the same glass found in Kelly’s backpack. Police said the door was worth about $1,000.
Kelly’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Oct. 16 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
