Work to make a list of improvements and repairs a reality has begun on the Butler City Farmers’ Market, with a goal of completion before the start of the next season.

City Councilman Dan Herr confirmed Monday, Sept. 29, that work is underway at the farmers’ market, located at 209 S. Chestnut St. The work, which was approved at a cost of $743,683 in July, will only cost the city $515,000 due to grants.

The project will look to make repairs and improvements, including installing a bathroom, fixing the roof, painting, electrical work, lighting, paving of the parking lot and landscaping outside to provide more space for vendors.

Herr said the hope is that a majority of the work is done this fall, with paving being planned for the coming spring. Herr said the city hopes work will be completed in time for the upcoming season.
