Rock CC unit shares national crown
Jen Harp and Jaime Wright finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to lead the 25th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's cross country team to a share of the team title in the Pre-National Invitational at Cooper's Lake Saturday.
The Rock shared the top spot with Cal State-Los Angeles. Both teams finished with 107 points.
Harpp and Wright both recorded times of 22 minutes, 19 seconds on the 6K course. Laura Mucho was 10th, Crystal Burnick 33rd and Leslie Kramer 55th place for SRU.
Pat Reagan ran a course-record time of 24;51 to win the individual championship and lead SRU to a fourth-place team finish at the Pre-National Invitational at Cooper's Lake.UC-San Diego won with 52 points, Lock Haven was second (69), Wayne State (Mich.) third (91) and SRU fourth (98).Jeff Weiss, the former course record holder, was seventh with a time of 25:55.
The Rock dispatched West Chester 3-1 on Friday, then followed up with 3-0 decisions over East Stroudsburg and Millersville on Saturday.Kaylee Smith had 36 kills and 26 digs in the three matches while Jen Blasko added 29 kills and 48 digs and Anastasia Urbanik 16 kills 23 digs.SRU (15-6) has won five consecutive matches and 14 of its past 16 matches.Men's SoccerPatrick Conley scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over Visiting Shippensburg Saturday. Toby Bowser and Thomas Pool recorded assists for SRU(6-4-1).
Senior running back Brian Mercer had 23 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown Saturday as Grove City won a 27-12 decision at St. Vincent. Mercer also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Andrew DiDonato.The Wolverines' defense forced three turnovers.
