PennDOT, companies partner on Route 528 roadwork

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced a public-private partnership to improve Route 528 in Connoquenessing Township on Thursday.

PennEnergy Resources, MarkWest Liberty Bluestone and Vogel Disposal have partnered with PennDOT on a $500,000 resurfacing project, which began Sept. 16 and is expected to finish by Sept. 30, weather permitting. The work will resurface the stretch of Route 528 between Harmony Road and Woodlands Road, strengthening the road for heavy truck traffic.

Under the terms of the partnership, the three companies will supply asphalt and trucking services to cover half the cost. PennDOT Butler County Maintenance will complete the paving and contribute the other half.

The initiative is supported by $5 million from the state for 2025-26 partnership projects statewide.
