Geibel

Robert H. Geibel, 85, a lifelong Butler resident, died early Wed-nesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia in Cabot after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born April 18, 1922, on East Cunningham Street in the residence area of Geibel Funeral Home, a firm founded by his father in 1919. He was the only son of Harvey J. and Helen Parker Geibel.

A 1940 graduate of Butler High School, following military service during World War II, he went on to graduate from Robert Morris University with a degree in accounting and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He was a licensed funeral director; and for several years, he was affiliated with his family in the Geibel Funeral Home.

He also earned a certificate from the National Institute of Banking; and for years, he was a retail banking officer at Union National Bank, mostly at the Main Street office, that is now National City Bank.

A veteran of World War II, he served two years in England as a corporal with the Army Medical Corps.

He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and the Civil War Roundtable group in Butler.

An avid world traveler, he and his wife had toured all 50 states, more than 50 countries and had taken numerous ocean cruises.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Yarger Geibel, whom he married June 9, 1951; a daughter, Faith Moore and her husband retired Army Capt. Robert Moore, of Chocowinity, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Jeffery Williams of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Lauren Robinson, and her husband, Brandon, of Alexandria, Va.

He also is survived by two sisters, Ruth Chamberlain of Butler and Jean Anne Schott and her husband, William, of Bellefonte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

<B>Geibel </B>— Friends of Robert H. Geibel, who died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St. His godson, the Rev. Anthony Grossi, O.S.B., will officiate.
