Betty Maxine Amon, 87, of Roseville, Calif., died July 23.

Betty was born on Feb. 2, 1926, in Butler to the late Peter and Gertrude Fennell.

She graduated from Butler High School in 1943, and received her nursing degree from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pennsylvania in 1948. She married Elliott Amon in 1952, and they lived together in Walnut Creek, Calif., before relocating to Roseville, Calif., in 2007.

Betty was a nurse until she retired in 1965. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her patients. Her nursing career included Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek, Calif., and Mt. Diablo Hospital in Concord, Calif.

Upon retiring she volunteered at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, Calif., and Left Overs, a nonprofit organization in Lafayette, Calif. She was a member of P.E.O. since 1992. Betty was an active member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Concord from 1961 to 2000, and later the Presbyterian Church of Lafayette, Calif.

She loved to entertain, travel and took many cruise vacations with her husband. She enjoyed spending many years at her second home in Lake Tahoe and was an avid snow skier.

Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Donna Amon of Visalia, Calif., and her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Brad Grondona of Granite Bay, Calif. She is also survived by five grandchildren, David Amon, Chelsea Amon, Jena Burris and her husband, Miles Burris, Leah Grondona, and Gianna Grondona, and two brothers, Richard Fennell of Sarasota, Fla., and Lewis Fennell of Butler.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Amon in 1985; her husband, Elliott Amon in 2010; and her brother, Kenneth Fennell of Butler.

AMON — A celebration of life for Betty Maxine Amon, who died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, will be at the Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary in Lafayette, Calif., in the Garden of the Angels, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to The Building Fund at Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Drive, Lafayette, CA 94549.
