Dorothy M. 'Dot' Book Conway
Dorothy M. “Dot” Book Conway, 90, of New Wilmington, formerly of Wexford where she lived for 49 years, passed away Wednesday morning at Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1923, to the late Frank Everett Book and E. Joy Allison Book.
She married Duane Lonsdale “Jake” Conway on Aug. 10, 1956. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2009.
She went to Zion School, which was a one-room school in Worth Township, Butler County, for the first through the eighth grades. She graduated from Harlansburg High School in 1942 and Slippery Rock State Teachers College in 1946.
She taught 4th grade for 35 years including from 1946 to 1956 in New Brighton and from 1956 to 1981 at North Gate School, Avalon-Bellevue.
She and her husband, Jake, wintered in Florida after their retirement at North Ft. Myers, Fla.
She was a member of the Ingomar United Methodist Church and presently was a member of the Zion Baptist Church, Worth Township.
Dorothy loved to write and receive letters and always enjoyed a good visit from family and friends.
Survivors include her sister, Margaret J. “Peggy” Holben of Slippery Rock; her sister in-law, Kathryn Conway of Slippery Rock, and her four nieces, Holly Lindey and her husband, Mike, of Slippery Rock, Mary Jo Burglund and her husband, John, of Cranberry Township, Mary Wiles and her husband, Wood, of Cumming, Ga., and Jane Malick and her husband, Dave, of Pittsburgh.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dot was preceded in death by her two brothers-in-law, Dean Holben and John Conway.
Conway — The family of Dorothy M. “Dot” Book Conway, who passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The Rev. Thomas Meling, pastor of the Zion Baptist Church, and the Rev. James McCandless, a dear family friend, will preside. Interment will be at Zion Baptist Cemetery, Worth Township, Butler County.Memorial contributions to help with long-term perpetual care may be given to the Zion Baptist Cemetery in care of Zion Baptist Church, 148 Currie Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
