I grew up in Muddycreek Township. All three of my siblings went to a one room school for at least part of their education. The sister that was born in 1951 only went to a one room school for one year. She then went to what used to be the Portersville Elementary. I believe it was in the fall of 1959 that they opened what is now the high school for the Slippery Rock school district. My brother graduated from there in 1960, and I believe his class was the first to graduate from the new high school, although I could be wrong about that. I was pretty young at the time.

The one room school where my sister went in Portersville has been torn down. It was along Route 488 near Brown's Restaurant. The one where my older sister and brother went, is along Route 488 between Prospect and Portersville. I think it was called Oak Grove. It has been made into a residence. I remember being in the one room school house that was near Brown's Resturant, but I recall ever being in the Oak Grove School. My Dad taught eight grades in a one room school in Center Township when he first got out of college, but I don't know which school it was in Center Township. I believe there were several one room schools there at the time. That would have been in the late 30's.
