Daughters of the American Revolution to ring bells Wednesday
The General Richard Butler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is asking people in the Butler area to participate in an annual tradition, Bells Across America, on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
A news release from the organization said Wednesday marks the 238th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution, which is commemorated by ringing of the bells across America.
The organization encourages all citizens, churches, schools, veterans, senior centers, Scouts, youth-focused clubs, city employees, county employees and leaders to ring bells in unison at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Bells called the people of Philadelphia together to hear the Declaration of Independence read publicly for the first time on July 4, 1776. Then, again just over 11 years later, on Sept. 17, bells called people together for the first public reading of the new Constitution, according to the news release.
