High school sports roundup: Carter French, Knoch boys run away with RMU Invite titles; Butler golf wins
Behind a 1-2 finish from Carter French and Grady Robb, Knoch boys cross country ran away with the title in the RMU High School Cross Country Invitational on Friday.
French broke the tape in 15:48.20, more than a minute ahead of Robb (16:50.90) and nearly two minutes ahead of the next runner. The Knights won with 24 points over Eden Christian and Pine-Richland.
Knights runners Connor McCool and Oliver Siemer finished fifth (18:12.60) and sixth (18:14.60), respectively, in the individual standings.
On the girls’ side, Natalie Zolinas came in second in 19:53.40 for Knoch, which did not field a complete team. Aubrey Spencer finished 13th (25:13.90) and Savannah Zanoli 14th (25:30.90) for the Knights.
Levi McClellan and Anthony Trombatt shot 38s in Butler’s 196-211 win over Knoch at Butler Country Club.
Boden Lenyk shot a 40 for the Golden Tornado (11-4, 8-4 section). Aaron Voltz and David Breese led the Knights with nine-hole rounds of 42.
Freeport 185, Valley 229 — Ethan Crooks shot a 34 as all five Yellowjackets carded rounds under 40 to improve the team to 14-1 (10-1 section) on the season.
Aiden Bauman and Gavin Tola each had a 37 at Buffalo Golf Club.
North Allegheny 180, Mars 196 — Jackson Geiger led the Planets with a nine-hole round of 35 at North Park Golf Course, and Jack Weaver shot a 38.
Makenna Myler and Elise Wadas shot identical rounds of 39 in Mars’ 174-250 win over Indiana. Addison Pangonis shot a 46.
