High school sports roundup: Hanna Dailey’s hat trick leads Karns City to win; Freeport golf cards impressive low round
Hanna Dailey erupted for three goals and two assists Wednesday night in Karns City’s 8-1 rout against North Clarion County.
Phoebe Brandon had a goal and assist, and Bree O’Donnell had a goal and two dimes. Also scoring were Sophia Bonetto, Aubrey Price and Maddy Mahood.
Butler 2, North Hills 2 — Ava Soley and Callie McKindley scored for the Golden Tornado (2-3-1, 0-2-1 WPIAL Section 3-4A).
Mars 4, Shaler 1 — Miley Gratton scored two goals for the Planets at home. Liv Halliday and Jade Breese knocked in the others as Mars improved to 5-2 (2-2 WPIAL Section 1-3A).
Slippery Rock 7, Grove City 0 — The Rockets shut out their neighborhood rival behind goalies Parker Wilhide and Connor Zorn.
Ryan Strother and Logan Berry scored a pair of goals, with Berry chipping in an assist. Sam Caton, Zach Lasko and Keaton Olsheski also scored in the win.
Levi McClellan caught fire at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course on Wednesday, carding a 5-under 31 in Butler’s 184-192 win over Mars.
The Golden Tornado (10-3, 7-3 section) also got a 34 from Henry Bortmes and 37 from Jase Renwick. Jackson Geiger led the Planets with a nine-hole round of 34, followed by Finn McKenzie’s 37.
Freeport 182, Burrell 216 — The Yellowjackets rebounded from their first loss of the season thanks to the lowest team score in coach Joe Sprumont’s tenure with the team, dating back 16 years, and possible school record, according to Sprumont.
Ethan Crooks led Freeport (12-1, 9-1 section) with a 33, followed by Carson Kane’s 35, Aiden Bauman’s 37, Max Zigo’s 38 and Gavin Tola’s 39.
Seneca Valley 184, New Castle 222 — Every Raider shot under 40 at Sylvan Heights Golf Course to run away with a victory. Vinci Villella led SV with a round of 36, including three birdies, while Marcos Lopez, Josh Marquardt and CJ Gworek all shot 37.
Hayden Hilliard shot a 47 to finish second individually and lead Moniteau to a victory in KSAC mega match No. 7 at Foxburg Country Club.
The Warriors shot a collective 152, edging out Cranberry Area’s 155. Sophee Hazlet finished third with a 51, while Cranberry’s Darien Wenner won with a 40.
Scoring individually, Karns City’s Sydney Schleiden carded a 64, and A-C Valley’s Kennedy Kinney had a 53.
North Allegheny 3, Seneca Valley — The Raiders fell to the defending PIAA champions in their first WPIAL section match after winning Tuesday’s opener. No other stats were provided.
