College roundup: Slippery Rock football remains No. 4 in rankings; BC3 volleyball now 7-0
Slippery Rock football stayed put at No. 4 in the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II rankings.
The Rock beat Franklin Pierce 24-13 in Friday’s season opener. They remain behind defending champion and No. 1 Ferris State, No. 2 Harding and No. 3 Grand Valley.
Fellow PSAC teams Kutztown and California (Pa.) moved up to Nos. 6 and 10, respectively.
Freeport grad Josie Russo had 24 kills Saturday in Butler County Community College women’s volleyball’s weekend sweeps.
The Pioneers, who now sit No. 7 in the nation among junior colleges, beat Harrisburg Area Community College 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-11) and Lorain County Community College (Ohio) 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 29-27) to improve to 7-0 on the young season.
Setter Anora Robare set a career high with 37 assists against Lorain, which came after she had 26 against Harrisburg.
