High school sports roundup: Camryn Woods’ hat trick powers Freeport soccer; Butler tennis sweeps Moon

Led by Camryn Woods’ hat trick, eight different Freeport players found the back of the net in a 11-0 girls soccer victory Monday night over Valley.

Elena Jenkins had two goals, while Ella McConville added three helpers.

Alyssa Alcorn and Sophia Crawford both played in net for the Yellowjackets (4-1, 2-0 in WPIAL Section 2-2A).

Fox Chapel 2, Mars 1 — Mackenzie Powell notched the Planets’ lone goal in the loss. Mars (4-2, 1-2 in WPIAL Section 1-3A) plays at home Wednesday against Shaler.

Boys soccer

Ryan Strother netted a pair of goals, while Wade Freehling, Sam Caton, Zach Lasko and Jesse Gahring scored the others in Slippery Rock’s 6-0 win over Conneaut. Parker Wilhide and Connor Zorn combined for the shutout.

Girls volleyball

Malia Page had seven kills, two digs and a pair of aces as A-C Valley downed rival Union in straight sets 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-18). Maddy Dehart added 13 kills, four blocks and a dig.

Girls tennis

Laini Spohn, Cassie Busler and Lindsay Lipp won their singles matches for Butler during a 5-0 win over Moon.

The trio swept by nearly identical scores, with Spohn and Lipp winning 6-1, 6-1 and Busler 6-1, 6-0. Sophia Kingsley and Cassie Skenclar teamed up to win in Doubles 1 for a 6-0, 6-0 sweep, and Devan Christofano and Noel Ernst won Doubles 2 6-1, 6-3.

Mars 3, Montour 2 — Gianna Kampian and Grace McMichael won in Singles 1 (6-1, 6-2) and 3 (6-2, 2-6, 6-3) matches for the Planets, while Elaina Riegler and Grace Nam came out on top in Doubles 1 with a 6-2, 6-4 sweep.

North Catholic 5, Knoch 0 — Evelyn Marche, Macaria Stall and Anna Ravotti had straight-set singles wins for the Trojanettes, with Marche and Ravotti not dropping a game.

Their duos of Kaitlyn Abel/Claire Elliott and Maeve Koroly/Anna Stumm also had doubles victories in straight sets.

North Hills 4, Seneca Valley 1 — The doubles team of Alivia Metz and Imogen Culley had the Raiders’ only match win in Doubles 2 by a score of 6-3, 6-4.

Boys golf

Ethan Crooks carded a 36 and Aiden Bauman a 37 as Freeport narrowly lost to Deer Lakes, a WPIAL Section 1-2A foe. It was the Yellowjackets’ first loss of the season.

Freeport now sits at 11-1 overall and 8-1 in section.

Girls golf

Cailyn O’Brien paced Moniteau with a 47, Juliette Brown carded a 49 and Hayden Hilliard and Gabriella Shearer both had 51s as the Warriors won KSAC Mega Match No. 6 at Hi-Level Golf Course.

The Warriors finished with a 147 as a team. Cranberry (150, second) and Brookville (172, third) followed. Kennedy Kinney had a 51 for A-C Valley.

Only Cranberry’s Darien Wenner (40) and Brookville’s Sami Neil (41) beat O’Brien.
