Pioneers golfers second at league tournament
Justin Kerr shot an 81 to lead the Butler County Community College men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Championship at Madison Golf Club in New Stanton Tuesday.
The Pioneers tallied a 333, nine strokes behind champion Westmoreland County Community College.
Also scoring for BC3 were Nate Bilski (83), Rich Shultz (84), Travis Shingleton (85), Justin Maskal (86) and Scott Mulhollen (94).
Kerr and Bilski were named all-conference for finishing in the top 10.
All six golfers will compete in the state tournament Monday and Tuesday at Penn National Golf Club in Chambersburg.
Bob McNees scored a pair of second-half goals and goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter recorded six saves as Grove City College (7-5, 3-2) defeated Westminster 2-0 in PAC play Tuesday.Westminster (11-1, 4-1) suffered its first loss of the year and was ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Grove City College recorded a 7-2 victory over Slippery Rock University Tuesday.Kristin McNally, Lindsay Hosler and Nicole Leasure were all double winners for Grove City (6-1).SRU's wins came as Ashley Michaux won No. 1 singles over Butler High grad Megan Hulick 6-0, 6-4, and Michaux and Abbey Green defeated Hulick and Julie Crewson 8-1.
Defending PAC champion Waynesburg College defeated Grove City College 30-17, 30-14, 30-21 Tuesday.Grove City (8-11) received five kills each from Kate DeMarco, Kelly Tinney and Carlie Roberts. Kim Walsh recorded 18 assists.
