Thomas Barrett
Thomas Barrett, 89, of Butler passed away Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.
Born April 19, 1928, in Butler, he was a son of the late William Barrett and Marie (Lusher) Barrett.
Tom grew up and lived in Karns City before moving to Butler. He was a 1946 graduate of Fairview Township, Karns City High School.
He had worked at the Daugherty Oil Refinery in Petrolia and then for the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, where he retired as yardmaster at the Calvin yard after 35 years.
He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
Tom belonged to the U.S. Trotting Association and owned several standard bred race horses after his retirement, including the renowned “Boomer Berman.”
He is survived by 12 loving nieces and nephews as well as many grandnieces, grandnephews, great- grandnieces and great- grandnephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by one sister, Genevieve Tritch; four brothers, Gilbert, Edward, William and Charles Barrett; and two nephews.
