TOWN CRIER

Butler City Council on Thursday:

Approved rezoning of land along West Wayne Street, belonging to Butler Technologies, from a mix of C-2, R-2 and M-1 zoning to entirely M-1 zoning. Pending a public hearing at council’s April 23 meeting, the rezoning will receive final approval on April 25.

Approved payment of $11,740 to A.P. Wise Excavating for demolition of the building at 310½ E. Jefferson St. and 112 Garfield Ave., pending inspection and approval by the code enforcement officer.

Awarded the demolition of the building at 518 Virginia Ave. to Ken Reilly Contracting for $5,945, pending release by the city solicitor.

Appointed William O’Donnell to the city Parks, Recreation, Grounds and Facilities Authority to fill out the term of Perry O’Malley, which expires Jan. 1 2016.

Accepted a proposal from Frames and Pixels for $2,550 to remove the virus, migrate data and redesign the city website, www.cityofbutler.org, which has been down for about a month. Frames and Pixels also will provide training for use of the new system and host the site for $240 annually.

Butler Mayor Maggie Stock said the site, which has existed for about 10 years, has traditionally been created and maintained by students, but city officials want to improve its usefulness.

Accepted a bid from Kelly Chevrolet-Cadillac-Oldsmobile for $47,800 to buy three new police cruisers, all 2013 Chevrolet Impala models.

According to Police Chief Ron Fierst, the new cars will replace 2008, 2009 and 2010 model police cruisers, and will reuse much of the equipment from them. The old vehicles will be sold. The new cars should be in service by July, Fierst said.

Introduced changes to three ordinances — solid waste, snow and ice removal, and junked vehicles — that add a $25 fine to the initial ordinance violation notice. The initial fine is intended to offset the cost of sending the violation via certified mail.
