‘We should be celebrating the people around us’

MILLER MINUTES
Miller Minutes

The last Miller Minutes column you read was published on my birthday. I didn’t say anything at the time because it wasn’t exactly the best one I ever had. This is on par, some might say, since I was named after Molly Ringwald, the star of John Hughes’ classic film, “Sixteen Candles.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the movie, Ringwald’s character, Samantha Barker, has her birthday upstaged by her sister’s wedding. She is completely forgotten by everyone except the boy she likes, Jake Ryan.

While I was not forgotten on my birthday, I did have to work. Don’t worry — I celebrated later!

All this to say, we should be celebrating the people around us (on their birthdays or otherwise), using our creative energy to give them a good day or show them we care. A small act of kindness can go farther than you think. Going out of your way for someone one day can change their whole week. The time you spend showing love can impact lives permanently, so don’t waste an opportunity.

If you’re looking to spend time with someone, celebrate a special occasion, or just get out of the house, take a look at what we have going on in Butler County this weekend.
