Valerie Jean Hemphill, 46, of Slippery Rock passed away at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday at the Grove City Medical Center Emergency Room.

Born May 31, 1964, in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of Henry P. and Patricia L. (Pizer) Downing of Prospect.

She was a program assistant at Valley Community Services, and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Timothy E. Hemphill, who she married Sept. 4, 1982; two sons, Andy and Missy Hemphill of Slippery Rock and Mike and Melissa Hemphill of Prospect; five grandchildren; her parents; three brothers, Henry P. and Melony Downing Jr. of Butler, Robert F. Downing of Prospect and Randy L. and Tonya Downing of Prospect; and her grandmother; Juanita Downing of Round O, S.C.

Valerie was preceded in death by an infant son.

<B>HEMPHILL</B> — Friends of Valerie Jean Hemphill, who died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Widenhofer officiating. Burial will be in the East Unity Cemetery.
