Lionel Richie safe, suspect arrested after attempted burglary at Beverly Hills home
A suspect accused of breaking into a Beverly Hills mansion of Lionel Richie, who was reportedly inside his home at the time of the incident, has been arrested, officials said.
Officers with the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to the singer-songwriter’s 90210 neighbor in the early hours of Friday morning, NBC Los Angeles reported. They received an emergency call just after midnight about a suspected intruder on the property.
Cops worked quickly to secure the area and a subsequent search of the neighborhood turned up suspect Michael Bond. The 38-year-old was taken into custody near Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly Glen, just a few blocks away from Richie’s home. He’s facing one count of residential burglary.
Police noted that while the 76-year-old Grammy winner was home at the time of the break-in, no injuries were reported. The would-be burglar was scared off by the security alarm and fled without taking anything.
The incident was captured on surveillance video, sources told NBC L.A., and investigators are still working to comb through the footage from Friday morning.
In a statement to the station, Richie expressed his appreciation for law enforcement’s prompt response and the suspect’s quick arrest.

LOS ANGELES — Lil Nas X was charged Monday with four felonies after police say he charged at them when they confronted him for walking naked down a Los Angeles street last week, prosecutors announced.
The musician, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, pleaded not guilty in a court appearance to three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer, the district attorney’s office said.
The charges were far more serious than initial reports that he was being investigated for a misdemeanor, and, with convictions, the counts could collectively bring a sentence of more than 10 years in prison for the singer and rapper whose “Old Town Road” was one of the biggest hit singles in history.
Police said officers found the 26-year-old walking naked on Ventura Boulevard, a major thoroughfare in the Studio City neighborhood, shortly before 6 a.m. Friday. They say he charged at the officers when confronted and was arrested. Police, suspecting a possible overdose, took him to a hospital where he spent several hours before being taken to jail, where he has remained since.
He was being held on $75,000 bail, conditional on attending drug treatment. It's not immediately clear whether he had posted it and been released yet. A message to his attorney, Christy O'Connor, was not immediately answered.
But O'Connor told a judge Lil Nas X has led a “remarkable” life that has included winning two Grammy awards.
“Assuming the allegations here are true, this is an absolute aberration in this person’s life,” O’Connor said in court, according to NBC. “Nothing like this has ever happened to him.”
The charges were first reported by TMZ.
Hill is set to return to court on Sept. 15 for his next pre-trial hearing.
The rapper and singer from Atlanta is best known for 2018's country and hip-hop merging “Old Town Road,” which spent a record 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won him his Grammys.
Known for his genre-bending, innovating sounds and style, his first full studio album, 2021’s “Montero,” went to No. 2 on the Billboard album chart and was nominated for a Grammy for album of the year.

LOS ANGELES — Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi adopted a daughter, the first child for the married couple, this summer, they announced Thursday.
“We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy,” the couple wrote in a social media statement. No further details were released.
Brown, 21, and Bongiovi, 23, were married in a private ceremony in May 2024. Representatives for Brown and Bongiovi did not immediately respond to the Associated Press’ request for comment.
Brown gained recognition for her starring role as Eleven in the Duffer brothers' sci-fi series “Stranger Things.” The fifth and final season will air this November and December, a culmination of nine years of the show's production. The British actor has pursued other acting and business ventures in that time, including the Netflix original “Enola Holmes” films and a “Godzilla” film. She even released a romance book in 2023.
Bongiovi is the son of Jon Bon Jovi, founder and frontman of the rock band Bon Jovi. Bongiovi debuted his own acting career as the star in “Rockbottom,” which released last year.
Brown stressed the importance of family during the 2024 premiere of her Netflix film “Damsel,” where Bongiovi and his parents were in attendance.
“I'm just so lucky that they're here tonight and it just means so much to me,” Brown told the Associated Press then. “Family is everything and just to have my second family here means everything.”
The couple lives in Georgia. She recently told the AP she enjoys living on a farm, largely disconnected from social media, while promoting her 2025 Netflix film “The Electric State.”
