Owner charged after dog killed 2 cats in Butler neighborhood
A Butler woman is facing charges after police say her dog killed two cats belonging to her neighbors within a month.
Katilynn N. Edinger faces one misdemeanor count of failing to confine pets within the premises of the owner after police found her German Shepherd with the neighbor’s dead cat in an alleyway near her home.
According to an affidavit, shortly after 9 p.m. Aug. 8, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Third Avenue in Butler after a caller said a dog was killing her cat. Shortly after, officers found a German Shepherd with a dead cat beside it in the 100 block of Fourth Avenue.
Officers saw the dog return to a residence where Edinger was outside, according to the affidavit.
Edinger told officers that she had a leash and a protective fence for the dog and was unaware of how the incident occurred, police said.
According to police, the Aug. 8 incident marked the second time Edinger’s dog had killed a cat. In a previous incident, Edinger’s dog killed a neighbor’s cat shortly before midnight on July 20, police said.
A preliminary hearing for Edinger has not been set.
