High school roundup: Crooks’ eagle highlights Freeport golf win over Burrell
Ethan Crooks tallied a pair of birdies and a chip-in eagle on River Forest Country Club’s 314-yard, par-4 No. 15 hole to lead Freeport’s boys golf team to a 194-219 victory over Burrell on Thursday.
Crooks finished with a 3-under-par 33. Carson Kane added a 38 and Aiden Bauman a 40 for Freeport (5-0, 4-0).
David Kleckner carded a 41 for the Bucs.
Knoch 199, Deer Lakes 205 — At Pheasant Ridge Golf Club, Jacob Jones’ 1-under 35 was one of three scores in the 30s managed by the Knights as they topped the Lancers.
Knoch (2-4) also received a 37 from Colt Sprankle and Aaron Voltz tallied a 39.
Christian Cappetta shot 38 for Deer Lakes.
Butler 189, Mars 194 — The Golden Tornado’s quintet was paced by Levi McClellan’s 33 at Butler Country Club.
Boden Lenyk added a 37, Jase Renwick 39, Anthony Trombatt and Blake Scott both carded a 40 for Butler (5-2, 3-2).
For Mars, Jackson Geiger and Landon Mitro fired a 36, Lukas Singh and Jaxon Hittle a 39.
Seneca Valley 180, New Castle 236 — SV’s top five overwhelmed the Red Hurricanes at Cranberry Highlands.
CJ Gworek, Anthony Cardosi and Vinci Villella all fired a 35 for the Raiders. Josh Marquardt was right behind with a 36 while Bradley Steiner and Marcos Lopez both shot 39.
Gianna Kampian, Gracie McCarty and Grace McMichael swept the singles matches for Mars in a 5-0 victory over Seneca Valley.
The Planets earned doubles wins thanks to Grace Nam/Elaina Riegler and Lacey Kern/Madi Cawley.
North Catholic 3, Sewickley Academy 2 — Macaria Stall and Anna Ravotti earned wins for the Trojanettes in singles play.
Claire Elliott/Kaitlyn Abel won in doubles action.
Butler 5, Shaler 0 — Laini Spohn, Cassie Busler and Lindsay Lipp notched singles wins for the Golden Tornado, while Sophia Kingsley and Cassie Sklencar and Devan Christofano and Haley Gruseck had doubles victories.
