Police: Man pulled from wheelchair during assault

A Mars man allegedly pulled a man out of a wheelchair during an assault and claimed he was acting in self-defense, police said.

Michael Sean Rapp, 47, was charged Tuesday, Aug. 19, with misdemeanor simple assault following an alleged incident earlier that day on Stanton Avenue in Mars.

Police said Rapp was arguing with a man when the altercation turned physical. Police said Rapp punched the man in the left side of his head, grabbed him and threw him from his wheelchair onto the floor.

The man had a bruise on the left side of his head behind his ear and had injuries to his knees and right elbow, according to the affidavit.

When questioned by police, Rapp reportedly said he was the victim and acted in self-defense, the affidavit showed.

Rapp’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
