High school golf roundup: Seneca Valley boys narrowly beat Butler; Moniteau girls 2nd at KSAC mega match
Seneca Valley boys golf won a WPIAL section-opening thriller Tuesday, beating Butler 182-185.
Marcos Lopez and Anthony Cardosi shot leading, identical 34s during the nine-hole match at Slippery Rock Golf Club. Boden Lenyk and Blake Scott led the Golden Tornado (1-1, 0-1 section) with a 35 and 36, respectively. Levi McClellan and Jase Renwick each had a 37. Josh Marquardt was third for the Raiders with a 36.
North Catholic 197, Hopewell 228 — Chris Faber shot a low round of 37 to lead the Trojans to a win at Shadow Lakes Golf Course.
Moniteau finished second in the first KSAC mega match of the season at Hi-Level Golf Course, shooting a 149 behind Brookville’s 144.
Juliette Brown finished third individually with a 47, while Sophee Hazlet and Gabby Shearer, and Karns City’s Maddy Albee, tied for sixth with a 51. A-C Valley’s Kennedy Kinney was fourth. The Gremlins and Falcons did not field a team score.
Pine-Richland 159, Butler 202 — Macie McLister led the Tornado (1-2, 0-2 section) with a 42 over nine holes at Conley’s Golf Course, but the Rams had two players shoot under 40. Rylee Gage and Emma Hesidenz shot 51 and 52, respectively, for Butler.
North Catholic 183, Central Valley 227 — Emma Mrkonja shot a match-low 37 to lead the Trojanettes to a victory at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Riley Kontul was second in the field with a 41.
