Hang in there, Three Degree Road
Three Degree Road is once again a construction zone, as Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews installed a series of safety improvements between Route 228 and Denny Road. The section of the road was scheduled to be under construction from July 27 to Aug. 11, with businesses and Mars Area School District facilities on the road notified of the changes in traffic patterns.
Commuters of the area are already all too familiar with changing traffic patterns. According to PennDOT’s website, the Three Degree Road project began in December 2022 and is expected to finish in November 2026 — the Route 228 Corridor Improvement Project is targeting more than 16,000 feet of road on Three Degree Road and Route 228.
If everything stays on schedule, we are more than halfway through this project, so keep being patient.
Road projects like this are long and expensive, and some have said the expansion of Route 228 is long overdue because of the increase the road has seen in traffic in recent years. Some of Route 228 has already gone from one lane to two, so drivers are seeing some of the benefits of the project already.
So even though the area of the road in front of Mars Area High School is pretty rough to drive on at the moment, there are better days ahead. The one-lane road and its connection with Three Degree Road has long been a bottleneck for drivers, so there is no telling how much of an improvement the projects will yield.
Just hang in there when driving on Three Degree Road and Route 228. The construction there will eventually become just a distant memory.
