Cranberry Township seeking grant to bring Hope Road up to date
CRANBERRY TWP — Township supervisors voted Thursday, July 31, to submit a multimodal transportation grant fund application for a proposed project to reconstruct Hope Road for improved pedestrian safety.
If approved, the grant fund from Commonwealth Financing Authority, will provide the township $1.3 million, and will entirely fund the first phase of reconstructing the road.
Hope Road, which is one of the older roads in township, needs a major upgrade, said Dan Santoro, township manager. This fund will help improve the shoulders of the road, take out some of the vertical and horizontal curves that are not up to current standards, and make it a much safer road overall, Santoro said.
“There’s new residential development going on in that area,” Santoro said. “It’ll widen and improve that section of the roadway.”
It will be a number of months before the township will hear if the grant is accepted.
“We’re going to try to get some grant funds and look at programs the next couple of years,” Santoro said in the meeting.
