Boros shoots 67, wins Tri-State
WEIRTON, W.Va. — Saxonburg resident and Treesdale Golf and Country Club’s Director of Golf Joe Boros turned in a superb effort Tuesday, turning back the clock in the process.
Boros, 55, carded six birdies as part of his 5-under-par 67 in the final round of the 2018 Tri-State PGA Open on Tuesday at Williams Golf and Country Club. The effort earned him his first title at the event since he won back-to-back crowns in 1995-96.
Boros’ two-round total of 139 was one stroke better than Cranberry Highlands Golf Course assistant Shawn McCall and amateur Andy Butler, who tied for second.
Boros began the day two shots behind the leaders (John Aber and Mike Frisina) after shooting a 72 on Monday. Four of his birdies Tuesday came on the back-9, including holes 10, 11, 16 and 17 — each one a par-4.
