Revitalization efforts won't hinder festival
ZELIENOPLE — The annual Horse Trading Days event returns next week, making the most of the opportunities and challenges that Zelienople’s revitalization projects bring.
The festival kicks off July 13 at a slightly earlier starting time than usual. It will continue through Saturday night.
“It’s going really, really well,” said Matthew Edwards, Horse Trading Days coordinator. “We’ve estimated a kick off at 3 p.m. on Thursday. We made it earlier to make it easier for the businesses to start.”
The festival will be on Main Street like always, and while revitalization projects will have some sections still in the reconstruction process, organizers are confident it won’t be a problem.
“We’ve been working with the contractors,” Edwards said. “They’re going to be closing up shop ahead of time. ... They’ve assured us the sidewalk will be passable for pedestrians.”
The revitalization has created some advantages with the addition of more than 100 parking spots.
“The borough took a huge step forward, adding a 108-space parking lot,” Edwards said. “All parking in Zelienople is free.”
The festival will feature a new stage, and attendees can take swing dance lessons before the H-Jazz Band concert on Saturday.
There will be concerts every night.
There will also be a karaoke competition, cornhole tournament and more.
Registration is required for the Zelie Idol Karaoke contest, children’s pageant, fun run, cornhole tournament and to participate in the parade.
