PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh restaurant is causing a stir after serving horse meat.
The Cure Restaurant hosted a special dinner with Canadian chefs on Monday. The Quebecois-themed fare included horse tartare.
Horse welfare advocate Joy Braunstein says she was outraged to hear that horse was served. Braunstein says that there are no American slaughter plants that handle horses.
Cure chef and co-owner Justin Severino released a statement explaining that the meat was sourced from a sustainable horse farm in Canada. Severino says that the dish is not part of the regular menu.
Horse is served in Canada and other countries.
[naviga:h3]Pickups recalled for faulty software[/naviga:h3]
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Fiat Chrysler is recalling approximately 1 million trucks in North America due to a software glitch that could prevent side air bags and seatbelts from deploying during a rollover.
The company’s U.S. division said today it is aware of one death, two injuries and two accidents that may be related to the problem.
The recall includes some 2013-16 Ram 1500 and 2500 pickups and 2014-16 Ram 3500 pickups.
According to the company, after some trucks experience significant underbody impact, a computer module may incorrectly determine that one of its sensors has failed, temporarily disabling the side air bag and seat belt pretensioner. If the vehicle is turned off and then back on, those restraints become functional again.
The company plans to reprogram the software in effected vehicles.
[naviga:h3]Flight delayed after scorpion seen[/naviga:h3]
HOUSTON — A United flight from Houston to Ecuador was delayed after a scorpion was spotted aboard.
United said that Flight 1035 returned to the gate Thursday night after a scorpion “reportedly emerged from a customer’s clothing.” Paramedics examined the man and determined that he hadn’t been stung. It’s unclear whether a scorpion was found.
United says it found a new aircraft for the flight and all passengers were given a meal voucher for the inconvenience.
The flight eventually got underway 3½ hours late.
A Houston television station said another man was stung by a scorpion on a flight from Houston to Calgary, Alberta, last month.
