Cherry Valley mayor announces reelection bid

Michael Bagdes-Canning

Mayor Michael Bagdes-Canning of Cherry Valley announced Friday, July 25, that he will officially be on the ballot for reelection this November.

Bagdes-Canning, who is running as a Green Party candidate, is the current mayor of the borough and served for decades on borough council. In 2022, he ran as the Green Party candidate for Pennsylvania lieutenant governor.

According to a release, Bagdes-Canning said he will aim to speak out against corruption and ballot access laws that especially penalize small communities like Cherry Valley.

“After spending the last 15 years working to change Harrisburg and Washington, I’ve become convinced that they are arguing about the right way to do the wrong things,” Bagdes-Canning said in the release. “They do the bidding of the billionaires and ignore those of us who work for a living. Neither party offers us a way to a better future; both offer us more of the same. I'm running because conservatives don't conserve and liberals don’t liberate.”

Voters in Cherry Valley will have the opportunity to choose their mayor on Nov. 4.
