Mary Jean Schlemmer
Mary Jean Schlemmer, 95, of Zelienople, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, while under the care of Passavant Retirement Community.
Born Sept. 6, 1929, in Harmony, she was the daughter of the late William Stanley and Mary Ann Buehler Wilson.
Mary Jean was heavily involved in her community. She was formerly a faithful member of Bell Memorial Methodist Church in Ellwood City. Mary Jean was a member of several organizations, including the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary. She was a certified lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America and a professional volunteer for the Beaver-Castle Girl Scouts Council, where she was a leader and role model, as well as a camp cook, and even trained other cooks and leaders. Mary Jean was a Lawrence County 4H Club leader in sewing, gardening and floral arranging.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, M. Eileen (the Rev. Dr. Julius Abernathy) Schlemmer of Greensboro, N.C., Katherine Cripps of Harrisburg, Karen (Roy) Davidson of Beaver Falls and Nancy Schlemmer of North Sewickley Township; her grandchildren, Aaron Cripps, Sarah Cripps and Dan Davidson; her four great-grandchildren, Avery, Wesley, Clara and Ethan; and her sister-in-law, Lois Ann Schlemmer.
Mary Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur James “Jim” Schlemmer, on Feb. 12, 2020; her granddaughter, Caitlin Faye Cripps; and her brothers, Laverne Wilson, Lysle Wilson and Robert Wilson.
SCHLEMMER — There will be no visitation for Mary Jean Schlemmer, who died Thursday, July 3, 2025.
A celebration of Mary Jean and Jim’s lives will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Scholl Auditorium at Passavant Retirement, 105 Burgess Drive, Zelienople.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary Jean’s honor to Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, Attn: Fund Development, 503 Martindale St., Suite 500, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
Arrangements were entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
