Denis Hayhurst

Denis L. Hayhurst, 76, of Butler, formerly of Kittanning, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 28, 1948, in Lumberport, W.Va. He resided in Kittanning for many years, and most recently in Butler at the Sergeant Joseph George Kusick VA Community Living Center, where he will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous siblings. He is survived by a special niece, Sherry Poil, and other nieces and nephews.

Denis was honorable discharged from the Army and had a deep concern for his fellow veterans. Denis loved Hershey bars and the outdoors. He also enjoyed bingo, watching wrestling and Westerns, country music, especially religious melodies, and reading his Bible. He wrote a lot of poetry. Here is one of his written poems to share … “Sometimes my stupid poems put my sanity in doubt, in closing, Just got to say that to you, I hope and pray God will protect you and your family too.”

HAYHURST — There will be no visitation for Denis L. Hayhurst, who died Monday, July 7, 2025.

Denis will be returning home to West Virginia for interment at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, W.Va., with full military graveside honors being conducted.

Arrangements are entrusted to SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning.
