Downing

Elvajean M. Downing, 81, of Butler, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025.

She was born in Butler on Oct. 5, 1943, to the late Warren and Mary (Groom) Thompson.

Elvajean graduated high school and earned her degree in bookkeeping from Butler County Community College.

She got along with everyone she met, she was well-liked and loved by all who knew her. Elvajean loved decorating for all holidays and would always send cards for birthdays and other holidays. She had a great love for her family. Elvajean enjoyed bowling and listening to ’50s and country music. She was a member of Community Alliance Church in Butler.

Elvajean was the beloved wife of the late Robert Downing, whom she was married to for 59 years; mother of Robert Downing and Sherri (Timothy) McCandless; sister of Mildred Elliott; and grandmother of Tyler and Nate. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her parents and husband, Elvajean was preceded in death by her siblings, Warren, Robert, David and Glenn Thompson, Marie Brown, Nancy Critchlow and Wilma Tabisz.
