Lewetta ‘Lu’ Bell

Bell

Lewetta M. “Lu” Bell, 94, of Mars, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, June 30, 2025, with family at her side.

Born in Duff City, Pa., on May 18, 1931, she was the daughter of William D. and Della Means Miller. She was a 1949 graduate of West View High School, where she was one of the chosen graduation speakers.

A daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many others, she will be dearly missed by all.

A voracious reader of novels, Lewetta read over 10,000 books in her lifetime and still found the time to take care of her growing family and all the many hobbies and activities she enjoyed. She had a long and successful career as a bookkeeper for Roessing Bronze, Lava Crucible, Vesuvius and BMI. She learned to knit and crochet, but favored crocheting, and by some estimates completed over 100 afghan blankets, most of which were donated to the residents at Sherwood Oaks retirement community.

Lewetta was also an avid card club member, bridge or 500, and completed a crossword puzzle each day. With her husband, Bill, they traveled all over the world and kept in touch over the years with many new friends met while traveling.

She was tech savvy and learned to operate her Apple watch and iPhone years ago. She also valued her freedom and could sometimes be seen driving to Wendy’s for a quick baked potato fix or to the Dollar Tree to stock up on her favorite cookies. Lewetta was a member of Mars United Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Pearl Sarver, Clarence “Red” Miller and Mildred Emmett. Lewetta’s dear husband of nearly 70 years, William Bell, died May 5, 2020.

Surviving are three daughters, Billie Durn (Randy) of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Patty Baylor (Dave) of Wexford and Karen Muse (Mike) of Piney Flats, Tenn.; a son, Ken Bell (Margaret) of Pittsburgh; and 10 grandchildren, Mandy, Mike, Leslie, Eric, Amy, Matt, Emily, Kelly, Mackenna and Valerie. In addition, Lewetta was proud to be great-grandmother to 10, plus one more on the way; and five great stepgrandchildren.
