Evans City moves on several infrastructure projects

EVANS CITY— Borough officials took several steps toward improving infrastructure during a monthly meeting on Monday, July 7.

The first of those was the approval of a contract with Wiest Asphalt Products and Paving for the re-paving of Elizabeth Avenue. That contract was worth $39,227 and was the lowest responsible bid.

Council members also approved advertisements for contractor bids to move forward with the Stormwater Conveyance Improvement Project that will cover Stewart Alley, Wahl Avenue, Sarah Alley and Dunbar Avenue.

That project is being funded by a $600,000 Local Share Account Grant that was awarded to the borough by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development on Oct. 22, 2024.

Per the borough’s website, the grant intends to replace storm sewer along the entire length of Martin Alley and the four aforementioned segments of road that run from Breakneck Creek to North Washington Street.

In a related vote, council members approved a $70,400 contract with engineering firm Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. for bidding and construction services for the project that is scheduled to begin in the coming months.

In additional business, members approved the purchase of 10 police storage lockers at a cost of $1,149.

There was also unanimous approval for the Evans City event committee to host a car cruise from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, July 26. That event will close down parts of Main and South Jackson streets.
