Betty Chvala

Betty Lou Chvala, 95, of Zelienople, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025, while under the care of the Lutheran Home at Kane, Pa.

Born March 6, 1930, in Beaver Falls, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Ours and Carolyn Marie McCoy Ours.

Betty was a member of Divine Grace Parish, St. Gregory Catholic Church in Zelienople and the St. Ann’s Guild. She co-owned and operated the Nansen Hotel in Kane for 25 years.

Betty enjoyed going for walks, playing card games and spending time with loved ones. She was an incredibly generous person who always made sure everyone around her was taken care of.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Nichole Johnson (Rich Koza); her great-grandchildren, Madison and Aaden of James City; several nieces and nephews, including her nieces, Gaynell, JoAnn and Terry; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Joanne Chvala.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Fred Chvala; her son, John E. Chvala; her daughter, Karen Ann Johnson; her brother, Richard “Dick” Ours; her sister, Phyllis Couch; and her longtime friend, Eleanor Soltesz.

CHVALA — Services for Betty Lou Chvala, who died Sunday, June 29, 2025, will be held privately. She will be laid to rest at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in Zelienople.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
