Doris Sopher
Doris J. Sopher, 95, of Harrisville, passed peacefully Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Orchard Manor.
Doris was born in Findley Township, Mercer County, on March 9, 1930, to Robert and Gertrude (Knauff) Shipton.
She married H. Dale Sopher on June 24, 1949. Together they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before Dale’s death on Jan. 5, 2015.
Doris graduated from Grove City High School and was employed at G.C. Murphy, JCPenney and Costello’s Candies.
She was a 70-year member of Harmony Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Harrisville.
Doris was known for her delicious meals and decorated cakes for special occasions. She had an amazing green thumb evidenced by her Christmas cactus plants with over 100 blossoms.
During their retirement years, Doris and Dale enjoyed traveling on many bus trips, having made many dears friends along the way.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Deborah L. Baker of Portland, Ore.; her son, Dennis (Rebecca) Sopher of Harrisville; four grandchildren, Samuel (Alison) Sopher, Melissa (Joshua) Williams, Megan (Gary Macy) Sopher and Micah (Keleigh) Sopher; great-grandchildren, Grant (Fiona), Lincoln (Janie), Will, Gibson, EJ, Noah, Daniel, Gretchen, Jay and Scarlett; and a cousin, Roger (Linda) Sopher.
Doris also is survived by her brother, Jerry (Lois) Shipton; and sisters-in-law, Bette Shipton and Mary Sopher. Doris had two special friends, Linda Sterling and John Hensley, who were so good to visit her regularly; as well as many “phone” friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her brothers, Norman and Donald Shipton.
SOPHER — Visitation for Doris J. Sopher, who died Tuesday, July 1, 2025, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 6, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, July 7, at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Monday, July 7, at the funeral home, with the Revs. Willard Morse and Jeffery Jones.
Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery.
