Claudia Marie Fetters
Claudia Marie Fetters, 63, of Midlothian, Va., died of cancer Saturday, Nov. 25, while holding hands with loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Audrey Witchey Fetters.
She is survived by her best friend and roommate of 45 years, Meg Gruber; her brothers, George and Shaun Fetters, both of Butler, and their families.
She also leaves behind her chosen families, Amy and Adam Tincher of Cincinnati, Ohio, and their children, Grace and Noah, Lee Dorman of Chester, Va., Liz and Ryan Dalton of Midlothian, Va., and their children, Isabel and Cody.
Claudia was born Oct. 26, 1954, in York, Pa. She graduated from Clarion State University in Clarion in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education for biology, Earth science and general science. She graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., in 1993 with a Master of Science in educational psychology and gifted education.
In 1977, Claudia taught high school science at Immaculate Conception Academy in Washington, D.C. She accepted a position teaching high school science in 1980 at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Va., where she taught for 19 years. In 1999, Claudia continued her high school science career for six years at Westfield High School in Chantilly, Va.
Claudia enjoyed her rich teaching career and excelled as a well-respected leader in her departments, clubs, associations and projects. After retirement, she served as a master gardener for Prince William County, Va. When not working, Claudia was an avid reader of all genres and loved to travel. She was a devoted friend to Meg Gruber. She will be remembered fondly for her kind spirit, generous heart and fun-loving nature.
FETTERS — Services for Claudia Marie Fetters, who died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 16 in the chapel at the River Road Church, Baptist, in Richmond, Va., officiated by the Rev. Kim C. Crowley, one of Claudia's beloved students.A reception will be held at the church for all friends and family following the service.Befitting of her love of science, gardens, and nature, Claudia will be buried in a private ceremony under a beautiful tree in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Va.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Hope in Action, a street ministry to those suffering from homelessness.
