Adams Twp. to get new truck

Adams Township moved forward with the purchase of a new truck and a new chipper at a board of supervisors meeting on Monday night.

Township manager Gary Peaco said the truck is a 2024 Peterbilt winter maintenance plow truck, and that it is being ordered in advance because of the supply chain. The total cost for the 10-ton vehicle amounts to $180,932.

The chipper is from Stephenson Equipment and is a drum-style model 12XP Intimidator. Costs for the chipper amount to $49,579.20.

“The chipper that we have is really, really old, and we have been looking at it for quite a few months,” Peaco said. “This time of year, when you get ice storms and you get limbs that come down, it's so much easier to get rid of some of that stuff (with a chipper).”

Both pieces of equipment are being purchased through the state COSTARS cooperative purchasing program.

Peaco said that the chipper could possibly arrive within the next few months, but the truck will likely not be delivered until the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023.

“We're trying to keep up with our vehicle procurement plan,” he said. “We have some older trucks, so we are just trying to keep cycling, get the old ones out, and bring the new ones in.”

GetGo hearing canceled

A previously scheduled hearing to discuss whether a proposed GetGo at the intersection of Three Degree Road and Route 228 would be able to get a liquor license was canceled. It had been scheduled to take place on Jan. 10.

“We were notified last week that GetGo has actually canceled their hearing that was supposed to be for 7 tonight,” Board of Supervisors Chairman Russ Ford said. “Some people in the public might have questions about why they canceled it; we really do not know at this point. All we know is that they did cancel it. We will let the public know if there are any other developments.”

The GetGo development proposal plan was rejected in 2021 by the Adams Board of Supervisors. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board hearing would have been separate from GetGo's land use plan.
