Charles W. Oesterling, 81, of Butler, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at his home.

He was born Jan. 12, 1944, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Leland W. and Marcella (Grabe) Oesterling.

Charles earned his associate degree from Butler County Community College. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as an aircraft technician, deployed with the 523rd Tactical Fighter Squadron to numerous locations throughout Southeast Asia. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 117.

Following his military service, Charles worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital and later retired from the Butler VA Medical Center. He attended Orchard Hill Church — Butler, where he served on the welcome team. He also volunteered with VNA Hospice.

Charles enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader and loved attending the Butler Symphony. Most of all, he cherished supporting his grandchildren in all their activities.

Surviving are his two daughters, Dana (Robert Jr.) Bonetti of Butler and Monica (Alex Runzel) Oesterling of Reno, Nev.; two grandchildren, Allison Bonetti of Seattle, Wash., and Josh Bonetti of Butler; his siblings, Ronald Oesterling of East Lansing, Mich., and Kay Kuhn of Linden, Mich.; and his friend and former wife, Martha Oesterling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers and six sisters.

OESTERLING — A memorial service for Charles W. Oesterling, who died Tuesday, June 17, 2025, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with Pastor Brady Randall officiating. Military honors will be rendered immediately following the service.

Private interment will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville.
