County down $23K after tax cases

Butler County loses roughly $23,000 in property tax revenue due to eight tax appeal settlements.

The county commissioners Wednesday approved the following settlements:

$16,284 in total revenue for Kohl’s in Butler Township. Tax revenue for the county before the appeal was $18,286. The company claimed its appraisal should have put its tax payment to the county at $14,037. The county loses $2,002.

$19,512 in total revenue for Kohl’s in Cranberry Township. County tax revenue for the property was $21,377 while the company’s appraisal set it at $16,845. The county loses $1,865 in projected revenue.

$26,250 in total revenue for the Target in Butler Township. The county tax revenue was $30,420 while company appraisal was $24,987. The county loses $4,170.

$27,760 in total revenue for the Target in Cranberry Township. County tax revenue was $31,523 while the company appraisal was set at $24,847. The county loses $3,763.

$16,494 in total revenue for Broadway Partners 2 LLC in Cranberry Township. County tax revenue was $19,782 while the company appraisal was $16,143. The county loses $3,288.

$2,582 in total revenue for Local Union 3303 UAW Building Corp. in Butler. County tax revenue was $3,228 while the company appraisal was $2,456. The county loses $646.

$8,703 in total revenue for the Butler Country Club in Penn Township. County tax revenue was $15,147 while the company appraisal was $7,850. The county loses $6,444.

$3,298 in total revenue for Bear Metallurgical Co. in Summit Township. County tax revenue was $4,571 while the company appraisal was $3,790. The county loses $1,273.

Sidewalk work

The county commissioners approved reallocating $5,317 from unused 2012 state grant money to a sidewalk replacement project in West Sunbury.

The reallocation gives the project, which includes putting curb cuts along the sidewalks to make them handicap-accessible, a total funding of $54,317.

Park work

The commissioners approved advertising for bids to upgrade Laura Doerr Park in Jefferson Township.

Work includes construction of a walking trail, bleacher improvements and making the park handicap-accessible.

The commissioners also approved advertising for bids to renovate the tennis court at the Eau Claire Borough Park.
