Dorothy O. Farnen, 85, of Connoquenessing died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born June 3, 1925, in Valencia, she was the daughter of the late Melvin E. Johnston and Edna P. McKinnis Johnston.

Mrs. Farnen was a member of Connoquenessing United Methodist Church. She belonged to the United Methodist Women and A.A.R.P.

She was a volunteer for 10 years at the VA Medical Center in Butler. "Dot's Door" was always open with a warm welcome to family and friends.

Mrs. Farnen is survived by a son, John E. and his wife Donna Farnen of Connoquenessing; a daughter, Jill Farnen of Slippery Rock; four grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Farnen was preceded in death by her husband, Henry John Farnen, whom she married Feb. 7, 1943, and who died Sept. 18, 1993. She also was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers and one sister.
