Fallen power lines shut down Rt. 422
A portion of Route 422 in Summit Township was closed for about three hours Thursday after a fallen tree knocked down power lines, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The downed electrical wires reportedly fell across all four lanes just before 9:30 a.m. and shut down the highway in both directions between Game Reserve Road and East Old Route 422, according to emergency crews.
High winds may have been to blame for toppling the tree onto the West Penn Power lines, said Larry Shuler, captain for the Herman Volunteer Fire Company.
A West Penn Power crew arrived at the scene around 10:30 a.m. to make repairs. Several customers in the area temporarily lost electrical service, according to the company's website.
The road reopened to traffic at 12:36 p.m., according to a dispatcher at the Butler County Communication Center. The Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
