‘The Lion King Jr.’ set as Sing Hosanna!’s summer production
The story of Disney’s “The Lion King” will be adapted to a stage by 36 children, ages 8 to 18, in an upcoming production by Sing Hosanna!
“The Lion King Jr.” will have two showings: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, and Thursday, June 19, at Butler County Community College’s Succop Theater, 107 College Drive, in Butler Township.
Ralph Christy Jr., Sing Hosanna!’s director and choreographer, has molded the 36 youths into walking, talking and dancing animals from the Pride lands of Africa. The actors have been “singing their hearts out,” learning body movements that they have never done before and executing dance sequences while balancing large head pieces, he said.
The principle cast of “Lion King Jr.” includes: Declan Clepper as Youngest Simba; Declan Cox, Young Simba; Caleb Doverspike, Simba; Andi Bauer, Young Nala; Delaney Minteer, Nala; Marissa McKenzie, Rafiki; Maranda Horstman, Scar; Miranda Vrabely, Mufasa; Hannah Callender, Zazu; Charli Doverspike, Sarabi; Hope Mason, Sarafina; Lincoln Morrison, Timon; Parker Skrastins, Pumbaa; Grace Pfender, Shenzi; Jacob Parks, Banzai; and Logan Knight, Ed.
The story follows a lion cub named Simba as he experiences difficulties and adventures while learning some important lessons as he navigates a path to ruling the kingdom, all while meeting some very interesting and entertaining characters. Rafiki, a mystic guide, helps him find his true destiny in the “Circle of Life.”
