Twila A. Caulkins

Twila A. (Miller) Caulkins, 93, passed away peacefully in her room at Passavant Community Friday.

“But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit which is in the sight of God of great price.” (1 Peter 3:4 KJV)

Born May 18, 1922, in Grapeville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ives A. and Anna (Grundy) Miller.

Twila was a longtime supporter and member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Lancaster Township. She was an avid reader, sewer and quilter, who loved perusing fabric and bookstores with her sister, Pat.

Twila enjoyed spending time with her extended family during holiday visits and especially loved Christmas. She loved the sea shore and cottage visits to French Creek and attending card club with the ladies of the church.

Twila will be remembered as a kind hearted and gentle spirit with an ever-present smile. Ahead of their time, she and Vernon were doing organic farm-to-table before it was popular. Twila loved baking and is still remembered for her most wonderful pies, particularly her blueberry and peach pies.

“…Rather, it (your beauty) should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.” (1 Peter 3:4 NIV)

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Alan I. Caulkins and his wife, Anna Marie; her granddaughter, Christina Fiora; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Twila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon T. Caulkins, who passed away March 17, 2001, and her three sisters, Grace Goodwin, Ruth Flinn and Pat Beige.
