Morning accident closes Rt. 356 for a while

JEFFERSON TWP — One person was hurt this morning in a two-car wreck that closed a portion of Route 356 in the township, authorities said.

The crash happened just after 7 a.m. when one of the drivers pulled out from Bonniebrook Road and into the path of the other car.

One driver, a woman whose name was not available, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, said Paul Harrity, assistant chief of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company. The other driver refused medical treatment.

The road was shut down for about an hour to allow crews to clean up the debris field left behind. The road reopened about 8:15 a.m.

Harrity said the road was icy in spots but he did not know if that was a possible factor in the crash. State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

Saxonburg Ambulance assisted at the scene.
