Dubyak

Andrew Dubyak, a recent graduate of Penn State University, has accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a Border Patrol Agent. He will be stationed in Alamogordo, N.M.At the university, Dubyak earned bachelor of arts degrees in crime, law and justice and international politics.While at Penn State, he served as vice president of Interfraternity Council, Alpha Sigma Phi fundraising chair and scholarship chair and received the James Myers Scholarship Award.A Butler High graduate, he is the son of Terry and Nancy Nicklas of Butler.———

Students from two schools have been named commended students in the National Merit Program because of their scores on the PSAT.Butler High students include <B>Brandy Amerson</B>, <B>Gina Benninger</B>, <B>Stephanie Larry</B>, <B>Elisa Nesbitt</B> and <B>Amanda Willard</B>.<B>Abir Chatterjee</B> from Slippery Rock also earned the honor.These students were in the top 5 percent of the students who took the test. They will receive a letter of commendation.<B>Jacob Ferguson</B>, 13, son of Ray and Kim Ferguson of Butler, recently won an essay contest sponsored by the Pittsburgh Carson Scholars Fund.An 8th grade student at Butler Catholic School, he received a $1,000 scholarship to a four-year college of his choice.In school, Ferguson is active in student council and basketball. He also plays baseball for Butler Township Little League.

———<B>Alyssa Sequete</B>, a recent graduate of Butler High School, is the recipient of a MathMovesU scholarship from the Raytheon Co.Amatching $1,000 grant will also be given to Butler High School.Sequete began studies at Duquesne University this fall.
