Attempted robbery brings jail time
A Butler man was sentenced to jail Thursday for pulling a knife on another man he saw walking with his ex-girlfriend last year.
Butler County Common Pleas Judge William Shaffer sentenced Hunter S. Dittmer, 22, of Kittanning to time served to 23 months in jail followed by one year of probation for one felony county of attempted robbery. Dittmer was immediately paroled, but still has other cases out of county awaiting him. Dittmer appeared by video from Butler County Prison and pleaded guilty to the charge, but declined to make a comment before sentencing. According to police, Dittmer was arrested on Oct. 24, 2019, for demanding the alleged victim's cigarettes and money, but nothing was taken, and no one was injured.
The 20-year-old victim told police that he and Dittmer's former girlfriend saw Dittmer as they walked out of a downtown Butler store. Dittmer allegedly called the other man a derogatory name before crossing the street and following the pair.
At some point, according to charging documents, Dittmer “pulled out a knife from his pocket and told (the victim) to give him cigarettes and money.”
The knife was described as being silver and between 5 and 8 inches long.
The 22-year-old woman recounted that Dittmer also threatened to beat up the victim. Following the alleged threat, the other man pulled out his cell phone, apparently prompting Dittmer to call him the same derogatory name as before.
Police arrested Dittmer later that day and charged him with a felony charge of attempted robbery and misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
