Patrick J. Cannon, 80, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Concordia of Fox Chapel.

Born Dec. 7, 1944, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Edward B. and Mary Jean Wilkin Cannon.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served in the Vietnam War.

Following his retirement from the Butler City Police Department, where he advanced to the rank of lieutenant, Pat went on to serve as the chief detective and head of the Drug Task Force for the Butler County District Attorney. When he retired from the district attorney’s office, he stayed on as a tipstaff in the Butler County Court of Common Pleas.

Pat was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police and American Legion Post 117. He also was an avid golfer.

He is survived by three children, Michael Sean Cannon of Butler, Patrick James Cannon of Arden, N.C., and Jennifer Lee Powell and her husband, Sean, of Butler; three brothers, Bill Cannon and his wife, Karen, of Saxonburg, Jerry Cannon and his partner, Carolyn, of Erie, and Ed Cannon and his wife, Peg, of Imperial, Pa.; a number of grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marion E. Patterson Cannon, whom he married Sept. 4, 1965, and who passed away Aug. 15, 2022; and one infant daughter, Carolyn Cannon.

CANNON — Friends of Patrick J. Cannon, who died Wednesday, June 4, 2025, will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Deacon Mitch Natali officiating.

Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by American Legion Post 778, VFW Post 249 and VFW Post 499.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
